Description

The debate regarding optimal management of a patient who has mesh placed and subsequent functional and/or consequences and complications is ongoing. The complexity of functional outcomes related to pelvic floor interventions clearly makes management of mesh complications a multi-factorial undertaking inclusive of optimization of medical, surgical, and social circumstances to benefit the patient. Topics will include the participants’ views on what symptoms are attributed directly to mesh, how much needs to be removed, and the impact of mesh removal on future floor function.

Learning Objectives:

  • Enumerate the potential outcomes that may arise from any intervention for pelvic mesh complications
  • Discuss optimization of management and counseling related to interventions for mesh complications
  • Describe the pros and cons of partial versus complete mesh excision for mesh-related complications
  • Gain insight into the best diagnostic approaches for evaluation of patients with complaints/concerns after mesh implantation

Moderator(s):

Speaker(s):

  • Miles Murphy, MD, Associate Medical Director, The Institute for Female Pelvic Medicine
  • Roger Dmochowski, MD, Director, Vanderbilt Continence Center Urologic Surgery
