This workshop will cover how to perform a thorough vulvar history and exam; normal vs abnormal findings; when to biopsy and vulvar treatment guidelines; skin care; dilator use; compounding formulas; and physical therapy for the patient with dyspareunia. Interesting case studies will be presented covering dealing with patients with vulvodynia.
Identify the anatomy and pathophysiology of vulvar dermatology/vulvodynia conditions
Perform a history and physical to evaluate the female patient with vulvar symptoms
Identify abnormal vulvar exam findings
Discuss the appropriate treatment plan for the patient with vulvodynia and vulvar dermatologic abnormalities including: medications, life-style modifications, compounded preparations, and sexual pain (including partner education/ participation)
Verbalize the physical therapist exam and treatment modalities for the patient with secondary vulvar pain, dyspareunia and pelvic floor hypertonus dysfunction (resulting from vulvar dermatosis) and identify which patients are appropriate for a PT referral
