Multi-disciplinary Opioid Panel

Oct 13, 2018 9:35am ‐ Oct 13, 2018 10:30am

Every 3 minutes a woman goes to the emergency room for a prescription painkiller misuse or abuse. The reality is pain management has become synonymous with opioid management. As a result of study misrepresentation, widespread acceptance of opioid safety propelled narcotics to the most highly prescribed medication in the country. The ensuing epidemic has spread nationwide and caused hundreds of thousands of deaths. Opioids blur the line between managing pain and managing chemical dependency. There efficacy is limited by a hyperalgesia response and use should be limited to acute on chronic pain rather than chronic pain maintenance. Please join us Saturday as renowned experts educate us on the Opioid Epidemic and non-addictive strategies to manage pain.

Learning Objectives:

  • Delineate the direct correlation of opioid prescribing volume to opioid related morbidity
  • Describe the neurophysiologic impact of opioids & it's role in increasing pain
  • Review the data on multimodal analgesia protocols in gynecologic surgery
  • Discuss the role of Enhanced Recovery Programs (ERP) in limiting opioid use in the perioperative period
  • Describe the long-term benefits of therapeutic treatment options which support self-efficacy
